Boy Scout Troop

  Venturing Crew
Scoutmaster:
Chuck Cheek

Venturing Advisor:
Sonya Whitehead
Sonya has been an active Scouting volunteer for the past 32 years, serving in various Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Exploring and Venturing positions in four councils. She is currently an Associate Advisor for Venturing Crew 210 and a member of Troop 210’s committee. In addition, she serves as chair for the Council disAbilities Awareness and Inclusion Committee. She loves the great outdoors, especially backpacking, rock climbing, rappelling and whitewater rafting. This is evident from her leadership roles in ten Philmont treks, one SeaBase trek and a troop trek backpacking and whitewater rafting in Pennsylvania. She has been on the staff of the disAbilities Awareness Challenge for the last six National Scout Jamborees, serving as chair in 2010. Sonya is looking forward to participating with the Venturing youth at the Jamboree. She is excited to be able to help provide this groundbreaking opportunity to young women in the Erie Shores Council’s Venturing program.

2nd Assistant Scoutmaster:
Mike Lynn
Mike began his scouting career as a Cub Scout in Pack 73, Bristol, Pennsylvania. After earning Wolf, Bear, and Arrow of Light he crossed over (literally, it was across the street) to Troop 2 in Bristol where he became an Eagle Scout in 1976. As a scout Mike was elected Vice Chief of his OA lodge, Ajapeu #33. Mike moved through the Cub ranks again with Pack 87 at St. Joe’s in Sylvania as a Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos Den Leader for each of his sons. He also served as Cubmaster before crossing over to become Assistant Scoutmaster and now Scoutmaster for Troop 87. Mike also currently serves as Committee Chair for the Pack and as a Committee Member for 87’s Venture Crew. Mike is an avid skier who loves any sport where gravity does the work, and so can’t wait to get to Jamboree for rappelling, zip lining and whitewater rafting.

3rd Assistant Scoutmaster:
John Glesser

John is currently a freshman at The Ohio State University, and is majoring in Chemistry with a minor in theatre. He is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow, and is presently an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 131 where he earned his eagle in February of 2010. He has been to Philmont twice, the first time in 2008 as a regular trek, and the second time in 2009 as part of the Order of the Arrow Trail Crew. As a side note, he has also done scuba diving in the Florida Keys, and White Water Rafting in the New River, not as part of scouting. This will be his third National Jamboree, and his first as an adult. In the 2005 Jamboree he served as the quarter master, and in the 2010, he served as a patrol leader. He would like to let everyone know he is very excited to start preparing for the jamboree, and even more excited to finally see the Bechtel Summit Reserve.
